Yamaha DT 175 1980 or so, wiring advise please?

I would like to just fire up this engine for now most of the electrics are missing. I have alternator wires, coil,stop/start handle bar switch and cdi unit. looking to know what wires I need to connect to start this bike and any thing else. cheersYamaha DT 175 1980 or so, wiring advise please?
If you connect the cdi to the engine and coil and leave everything else disconnected it will run, early dt's earth the output from the alternator to earth to kill the engine so with everything disconnected it should run.

You don't need a battery as the power for the ignition circuit is generated directly from one of the altenator coils.Yamaha DT 175 1980 or so, wiring advise please?

The alternator needs to be connected to a regulator or it is not going to do anything, your best bet just to see if it runs is to fit a battery Negative earth and then connect the live direct to the coil and kick it off if it runs then go and get a manual to get it done right.
I'm pretty certain Haynes did a manual for that one.
