Right now at my job I can wear whatever I want. Usually I look like i popped right out of a fashion mag with my leggings and funky long shirts and fuzzy boots etc. However this look won't work anymore when I become a teacher. I'm really not all that great with fashion actually and can't seem to figure out how to dress professionally without looking like I'm 50. How can I dress professionally while remaining comfortable and stylish?Advise for teaching wardrobe?
It depends on the dress code for your district. I know of districts that have a casual friday dress code, and others that require professional dress all the time.
You absolutely can't go wrong with a nice pair of dress slacks and a matching dress coat (we call them blazers around here...don't know if that is a universal term.) You will look sharp and professional.
Just remember, you will be a teacher. Your job isn't to talk fashion, and to look fashionable, besides the students won't care anyway. Your job is to engage students' brains in learning. You don't want to look like one of the kids, or they may have a hard time respecting you.Advise for teaching wardrobe?
I'm a teacher and I wear leggings under my dresses all the time- especially in the winter when it's chilly! I guess it depends on your district, but here are my personal guidelines to what I wear, and it fits in with what the school wants:
1. No jeans
2. Nothing too short
3. Nothing too low cut
4. Nothing too tight.
For instance, today I have a shorter dress on, but I have black leggings underneath, so it's okay. I'm wearing black riding boots and a black wrap sweater over my dress since it's sleeveless and it's cold out today. It's a great winter outfit and I look very fashionable!
Now, if your district prefers you wearing dress slacks and jackets, then that's a whole other story!
You need to find clothes that suit your age. I'm assuming you are fairly young so buy knee length skirts that are flowy, bright, and colorful to liven up your appearance. Try pairing a cute blouse with a fitted jacket for a cute look. Knee length black boots go great with just about every outfit. Dresses that have floral patterns make people look young too. Good luck!
