Indie hair, advise please on how to style!?

I really want Diana Vickers hair, its so nice but when ever I try it just goes flat straight away when I backcomb it or its just a straight and boring up lift backcomb, and when I curl it with spray and scrunch it goes messssy. I have loads of products just no idea what to do with them lol
