Need some advise on Rail Travel as a Uni Student...?

Im planning on travelling from Lincoln Central to Norwich by train, every weekend 3 weeks in a row. I am planning on getting a young persons rail card to save a bit of money, but I would like some advise what people think is the best way to go about this, because a lot of my student loan is eaten by this travel so im eager to spend as little money as possible, and for anyone who says dont travel so often - well thats not an option for me! Travelling by coach isnt viable for me as its a long journey and i'd like to read or set my laptop up and i get travel sick on busses cars and coaches looking down lol.





If anyone knows of any better discount cards, or websites to buy tickets this would also be very helpful!

The cheapest fares are available if you


1) book in advance (a specific train and time)


2) travel at off-peak times


3) use a railcard





Check with the rail company which goes on that route to find which times are cheapest.





checking online is the best way, the staff in the ticket offices usually want to sell you a more expensive ticket, so you need to insist on the cheapest fares if you go that way.Need some advise on Rail Travel as a Uni Student...?
I personally dont use the trains anymore due to ultra rip offs, use National Express coaches they are FAR cheaper. A ticket from Northallerton (40 miles above york) to london costs 拢120 using the train, whereas using National Express fun fayres it cost me 拢4!
young persons railcard gives you a third off and as far as I am aware that is the best train discount you can get.





Sometimes if you buy tain tickets online (assuming you know when you know exactly when you want to travel) - then that can save you a little bit of money as well
